History

Benillup is a population of Muslim origin. It was conquered by the Christians in the middle of the thirteenth century, but I felt it was a place of Moriscos with a total of 37 families, about 150 inhabitants, renowned benillupers and benilluperes (1609).

Benillup belonged to the Hinojal family in the seventeenth century, and later the lordship was possession of the Count of Rótova. The population, with 207 inhabitants in the year 1900, descended during the 20th century due to emigration, constituting a total of 104 inhabitants in the year 2000, in a term of 36 km2.
